Where To Source The Printer Driver You Need For Your New Printer

Printer driver software, and driver software for related office peripherals, is always amongst the most popular of computer software downloads. Even though printers are continually being improved and updated, there remains a solid market in used machines and old models. Not every user needs the latest advancements, many are happy with just a basic machine which satisfies the need to print office material. Home users are even more likely to look to the second hand market to find what they are looking for. When there is no great requirement for speed, there is even less need to invest in state of the art equipment.

When you buy a brand new printer, there will be a printer driver included in the package. This will be on a CD, making it easy to install and use. As long as you have a standard Windows operating system of fairly recent vintage, you should be able to get your equipment up and running very quickly. If your operating system is not standard and not supported, you will have a bigger problem.

If, on the other hand, you buy a second hand machine, you will probably not get the original CD as part of the package. This should not be a problem, as a printer driver should be easy to locate and download from the Internet. Simply type the make and model number of your printer, plus the word “driver” into a search engine, and the results should come back with the URL of the exact page where you can download the software you need. The manufacturers of printers want people to be able to use their products with as little fuss as possible, so the download pages are usually easy to navigate.

If you have a fairly modern version of the Windows operating system, this should be all you need. If, on the other hand, you are using a Mac, you may have more problems. Many drivers for Mac operating systems are created by third parties, which makes them slightly harder to find. Once again, however, the search engines are your most likely bet. Your driver download printer software should be fully compatible if you have used “Mac” or “Mac operating system” as part of your search.

If you are using a Linux operating system, you may still be able to locate a suitable driver. In the true spirit of open source software, there are many enterprising individuals creating driver software for all kind of peripherals, including printers. If your printer is of a fairly common brand, there will probably be a driver somewhere which can power it. Use the search engines once again to find out. Unless you are using a printer of a very obscure make, or an operating system from a great many years ago, you should be able to source a suitable printer driver.
